The Holiday Season is upon us and in spite of the hectic schedule Stefano Farkas must keep he has found the time to do another fly in stages for us. He built this outrageously large Popham. I realize there are a number of us who struggle to get one pair of tippets to look nice as an underwing, Stefano put 6 pair on this Beauty and they are flawless. I am honored by the fact he tied it for me as a Christmas gift and I am pleased to share this gift with everyone. Thank you Stefano.
"It is a huge fly, tied on a 10/0 Harrison&Bartleet by Reinhold so we can call it " the Jumbo Popham ". I know that this is one of your favourite patterns so please consider it as my Christmas gift. It was very difficult to find materials such long and large to fit this giant: for the wings ( see the photo ) I had to find sections of feathers of more than 4 inches in length! Especially with florican and speckled bustard this was not easy indeed. You will also find the photo of the macaw yellow breast feathers which I dye with Veniard?s red and I use as indian crow substitute.I changed the Pryce-Tannat version only in the underwing for which I used not two tippets only but twelve tippets back to back; this because the fly is big and only two tippets will cause in my opinion an impression of empty space under the main wing."
