Jim Blais and I go back a number of years. He is without a doubt one of the nicest people I know. Our friendship began several years ago when he contacted me in search of salmon fly materials and instruction. I've led him down the path so to speak to where he is almost as big a materials junkie as I am. For example, even though he has a lifetime supply of silk gut he decided to raise caterpillars and make his own just for kicks. He was kind enough to write a very interesting article on how he did it and direct you to the proper places where you can obtain the necessary items and information to do it yourself. Click SILK GUT to read it now or visit the Educational Resources section where it appears along with other items of interest.
Jim and I have fished both in Michigan and Montana together as well as traveled to Wisconsin to tie flies with our mutual friend Tom McFarland. The three of us try and get together and tie at least once at each of our homes every year. The odd thing is there is usually a regional shortage of Single Malt Scotch following our get-togethers even though Tommy doesn't seem to drink much. The other oddity is we actually get a fly or two tied during the trips.
In my opinion, if Jim didn't spend so much time training for and running in marathons he would have a lot more flies to show you. I do have a few pictures of flies he has done.
