I've just met Paul Martin through our mutual friend Ed "Muzzy" Muzerol. I know Paul only through email and telephone. He lives in Maine and he's an awfully good fly dresser. He is also a very nice gentleman. His skill at the vise is obvious. The picture to the right is Paul sitting in his flytying room in 1998. He has since remodeled the room and made room for more stuff. I'll let his flies do his talking for him. I think they are stunning. The first series of thumbnails are Paul's flies from patterns out of Tolfrey's book, Jones Guide to Norway:

August 7 2005 I'm attempting to show Pauls flies a little closer than what I had originally done. He is so meticulas in his dressing and as true to the original recipe as possible that they deserve a better look. I've also been remiss in posting several of the newer flies Paul has been kind enough to send me.

I've expanded the pictures by enlarging each of the flies individually. As a result the picture quality has deminished but certainly is not the fault of the dresser.

Paul is obviously interested in True Classics. This is what he has to say about the following plates: I also tied three very old obscure patterns from "the old salmon flyer" that I got from David Zincavage. There are also 3 older patterns using wool dyed from an Irish lichen. The color is referred to as "Crottle".

The following is a plate of flies including close up views tied by Paul recreating three flies originated by Farser Sandeman.

Who is Fraser Sandeman? I refer you to an article in the last issue of the Salmon Flyer entitled WHO IS FRASER SANDEMAN

Below are Paul's beautiful reproductions of some old William Blacker patterns:
