Scott Story is a new friend via my buddy Muzzy. Not only is Scott a long time tier that started in his preteen years like I did, he is also a career Law Enforcement Officer. I'd guess that if I had lived and worked in Belfast, Maine I would still be working rather than retiring after 26 years. I know I'd be be working for Sheriff Scott Story of Waldo County Maine if I had the opportunity. Some people have all the luck.

Not only did Scott send pictures of his extremely nice flies but he sent a brief Bio.

"My interest in fly tying began when I was 12 years of age and got a fly tying kit as a result from selling tickets for a boy scout project. After quickly discovering that the kit only wet my appetite, I got a lesson from a fly tier/fisherman named Don Spaulding of Belfast, Maine. Don got me started tying tandem streamers where he knew I liked to troll for landlocked salmon in northern Maine lakes. Carrie Stevens? patterns filled my boxes! I then revisited him a couple of years later and got more lessons on drys, wets and nymphs, using them frequently in ponds, streams and lakes in the Chesuncook / West Branch region of Maine where I spent most of weekends growing up. I continued to tie for years and put it up for a while in my early thirties while I was busy with my career in criminal investigations and a young family. I opened up my boxes again a few years back and found myself wanting to get creative with my tying, out of fear of boredom with tying Quill Gordons and Hares Ear Nymphs!!

Trying to duplicate the beautiful work I found on the internet and in magazines, I found myself adding to what I thought was an already inclusive material collection. After a few nightmare attempts with expensive materials, I decided to play with less expensive stuff and work on technique before spending the big bucks. Some time spent with ?Muzzy? and continued practice is getting me much closer to my desired goals however I remain a life time student and quite humbled as I look at the work of the masters on this website.

I would like to credit the work and writing of Ronn Lucas Sr. who has convinced me that these creative flies need not have expensive materials to look spectacular. A special thanks to ?Muzzy? who keeps me focused on technique when my creativity may sometimes drag me elsewhere!

My full time job can be a bit a stressful at times but several lost hours behind my Barracuda is the best therapy money can buy!!!!" Scott Story

Scott has proven to be a good student as observed by looking at his flies. I guess what I enjoy most about them is their names. See for yourself by clicking on the thumbnail pictures below:
