For those of you, who haven?t had the pleasure of meeting Tim Kilnger (as I have not) might remember him as the guy that straightened out my PDF pictures in the National Geographic Silk Gut Article. Not only is Tim blessed with artistic talent he has the skill to pull it off as well. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of Tim so I?m showing off a couple pictures of woodworking projects he has done. The one to the right is a Bible Box done for his brother A Minister and to the left a little lower is a Dower Chest Tim made for his daughters 10th birthday. Not only was Tim kind enough to supply his own Bio (shown below) he sends his pictures pre-adjusted and ready for me to use. What more could I ask for? Only one thing I can think of. More pictures! Thanks again Tim.

"I first became acquainted with Atlantic salmon flies about ten years ago when my wife gave me The Art of the Salmon Fly as a gift. I had been tying trout flies for a few years prior to that, but this was a whole new world to me. Being that I am an artist and graphic designer, these flies really appealed to my artistic nature. I dabbled with tying these flies for a while, never really diving in or being satisfied with my results or materials. A few years later, I picked up Poul Jorgenson?s and Ron Alcott?s books, which helped me to understand the process a bit more. My results still weren?t very good, but I was starting to get into it a little more. I also starting searching high and wide for descent materials, much to the dismay of my wife. Then I got Mike Radencich?s book and later (through much trouble) his DVD. Finally things started clicking, and I started becoming more satisfied with my flies. Like most tiers, I?m never really fully satisfied, but at least I was pleased enough to display a few.

I?ve been honing my skills by tying classics with a few of my own patterns thrown in occasionally, but I know in the future I?ll be tying a lot more original patterns. John gave me some great advise regarding the length of my tails. This is apparent in some of my flies shown here. I always have had a tendency to make them somewhat too long.

I also try to combine my love of woodworking with fly tying. I made my own tying cabinet/desk which I quickly outgrew. Darn! I guess I have to make a new materials cabinet. Now if I can only combine playing hockey with tying, I?ll be all set."
