I was fortunate to meet Roger in 1999 at the Fly Tying Symposium in Somersett New Jersey. Roger and an East Coast gang of Salmon Fly Dressers are guest and featured tyers every fall. That show is one of the most enjoyable I've ever attended. It turned out Roger was close friends with Jean Paul Dessaigne whom I had been corresponding via the Internet and made arraignments to meet at the Symposium. Jean Paul didn't speak English at the time and the only French words I know didn't seem to be appropriate. Fortunately Roger is fluent in both languages and acted as our interpreter.
Roger and I have been friends ever since.
Roger and his lovely wife Pierrette live in Plainville CT. Roger's parents are originally from New Brunswick, Canada and Roger goes there several time a year to visit family but secretly I know he just goes there to fish for Atlantic Salmon.
Roger created a modern Classic fly he dubbed "America" a tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11. He is one of the 3 original collaborative tyers (Paul Ptalis, Roger Plourde and Paul Rossman) in the construction of the Poul Jorgensen, a salmon fly designed in recognition of Poul Jorgensen?s 75th birthday in 2001.
