As of 6/20/2006 Ron Reinhold is no longer making salmon fly hooks. The torch and the technology has been passed to Ronn Lucas Sr of Milwaukie Oregon.
Below is Ron's announcement on 6/20/06:
Dear friend,
I’m writing to inform you that I am no longer making blind-eye hooks for classic Atlantic salmon flies.
Ronn Lucas Sr. of Milwaukie, Oregon, has purchased all my equipment and inventory, and he will strive to meet your hook needs from this day forward. You probably already know Ronn, and know he has been a friend and mentor to tyers for many years. His reputation as an accomplished tyer of classic Atlantic salmon flies is growing by the day. He also has a lifetime of experience as a skilled craftsman and artist, and is a fine gentleman.
Ronn has been at my house for the better part of a week learning the black art of japan formulas, japanning, barb cutting, and all the intricacies of making fine blind eye hooks. I have full confidence in his ability to produce hooks equal to the purpose for which they are intended. He produced perfect hooks on his very first try in my shop. From this day forward, if you need hooks, please contact Ronn at:

Ronn will be here for a couple more days before making the trek home to Oregon. We still have a few important things to work on, so if you don’t hear from us for a couple days we are not ignoring you. We will respond as soon as we can, most likely a few days from today. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Thank you very much for the gift of your friendship and trust over the years. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making hooks, and helping you as best I can. On the other hand, it’s time for me to move on to another big project in my life. I’m drifting away for a short while to write a science book about fishing. If all goes well it’ll be done by late fall. Wish me luck. Thanks again for everything.
Wishing you all the very best in life,
your friend,
Ron Reinhold
The picture on the right, taken in 1999, is of the two BEST modern hook makers of Classic Atlantic Salmon Fly Hooks. Oddly enough they were both from my State, Michigan, The gentleman to the right is Eugene Sunday. Gene known by many as the Hookmeister was killed in a tragic car accident in 2003. On the Left in the picture is Ron Reinhold. Ron creates the most elegant hooks available today. Not only does Ron offer an incredible array of hooks replicating the various styles of the old masters he can and will create custom orders as well. Bending, barbing and grinding wire is one thing that almost anyone can do, myself included. Making them so they are perfect and exactly alike every time is something Ron does but it is his finish that really sets him apart from the rest. Ron will finish or re-finish hooks you send him. For those of you who want the best hooks, the widest selection of sizes, bends and points plus a finish that resists chipping or flaking or if you simply feel your flies deserve the best foundation possible,
