Chinese Neck Hackle

I have replenished my supply of strung Chinese Hackle with a slightly different approach. This time I was able to buy quantities of 3" to 3 1/2", 4" to 4 1/2" and 5 1/2" to 6" lengths. I've spread out the package of white in the lower right of the picture above so you can see what you will get; 3 pieces 2" long (measured along the bias) of each size. A slightly larger picture is available via the View Colors on the menu bar to the left. I will have additional pictures available below showing color comparison soon.


Why Chinese Neck Hackle? I prefer a tapered "Christmas Tree shaped" body hackle with robust barbs and lots of web. I like to see that void under the body, between the hook point and throat, filled with a sharp or radically tapered feather, like you see in the insert photo.

Our Domestic hackle, while wonderful for many other uses, lacks both qualities I look for in Salmon Fly body hackle. Chinese, Saddle or Schlappen, has the web but lacks the taper.

In each package, you will get a generous supply of superb strung Chinese neck hackle, in your color choice, in a full range of sizes from small to large.
