Eagle Substitute

Eagle_sub_2011_dirty_yellow

Through my friendship with Danny "Red Elk" Gear I've been able to see and feel a real Eagle Marabou hackle or "Fluffys" as they are called by Native Americans. There is a slight difference in taper between a Turkey and Eagle plume but the main thing is the rachis (feather shaft). The Eagle is extremely flexible while these Turkey feathers are almost Indistinguishable from the real thing. I doubt the masters felt that Eagle had any magical fish catching qualities but took a more utilitarian approach in using a feather that was easy to wrap.

What I'm offering here is the best of both worlds. It's simply a Turkey Thigh Marabou feather (Light Gray dyed Dirty Yellow shown above) with a very thin rachis. As with the use of real eagle one side is stripped of the barbs so when it is wrapped like body hackle it offers an ethereal covering of marabou. Click DETAIL for a picture of a prepared feather.

5 feathers per package.

These are hand selected for their Eagle like barb qualities then dyed dirty yellow. Shown below are the other color options:The supply of speckled is very limited. I'll be glad to dye any of the natural colors most anything you would want. Please let me know.
