Florican Bustard Substitute Goose Shoulder

Goose_florican_2

Actually this is where it all started for me and my creating substitutes for hard to find feathers. Back in the late 1980's Gene Sunday told me the only way I could gain admission into the "Exclusive Group" was to have something to offer. At the time, believe it or not, good white turkey was hard to find. Gene was growing turkeys and had some Bourbon Red tails I was trying to bleach white so we could dye it. That didn't work out well but led to other things. Gene also gave me a couple dozen Blue Toulouse Goose Shoulder feathers that were nice and big (2 1/4" was our wing length benchmark) but was too dark to be practical. I still have the first attempts at painting bleach lines but at the time didn't think of over-dyeing them to punch up the color. Spanish Black Turkey is my favorite but these are a close second. On average they are larger than my dyed Goose Shoulder so if you are a fan of Pryce-Tannet (He was the only one that used Florican to any extent) these will fit nicely to 5/0.
