MATERIALS: Veiling-Cheeks

The fly you see above was created by my FRIEND Bud Guidry. The fly is not named (that I'm aware of) but it typifies Bud's penchant for the "Rare and Unusual" body veilings and cheeks.
Up until recently I offered (or tried to) various small colored birds that were fairly readily available. That is no longer the case. I'll do what I can to legally obtain materials we can use but for now there is no point in having a long list of things I can't deliver.
Veilings are feathers that adorn the tail or body of a Salmon Fly. They are usually small brightly colored feathers from fruit eating, jungle dwelling birds, found in Central or South America. Leading the list is the Indian (or Red Ruffed Fruit) Crow. The Latin name for Indian Crow is Pyroderus scatatus and include 5 sub-species. Click HERE to see a reference photo of the five different sub-species. Also see Indian Crow/Red Ruffed Fruit Crow an article written by our Friend Luc Couturier.
