Gut is the term we use for the material we make the eye with on a Blind Eye Hook. Tennis rackets were also strung with it and physicians still use it today as sutere material. It's also referred to as Cat Gut. It really doesn't have anything to do with Feline Intestines. It simply is a contraction of Caterpillar Innards. See NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SILK GUT ARTICLE and GROWING YOUR OWN SILK GUT both in the articles section under Educational Resources above.
